Overview:
This professional learning experience is designed for district, school, and math teacher leaders. Learning will focus on effective teaching practice 8, elicit and use evidence of student thinking. This practice ensures that teachers continuously gather, interpret, and respond to evidence of student understanding to inform instructional decisions. Participants will get an overview of this teaching practice along with tools for implementation.

Additionally, connections will be made from this teaching practice to the student math practices in the 2022 Math Standards. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their district’s current implementation of this teaching practice and how to further develop teacher knowledge and capacity in implementation. Through utilizing the Elicit and Use Evidence of Student Thinking Practice Guide, we will explore tools and resources to help monitor implementation of this practice.

Aligned Support:
• Before: Meeting with regional math lead to determine readiness.
• During/After: Virtual and onsite coaching for leaders to build capacity to support teachers in developing their knowledge and skills around Effective Math Practice 8: Elicit and Use Evidence of Student Thinking. Leaders will gain access to professional development materials and side-by-side implementation support from COMPASS staff.

Prerequisites: Creating the Vision: Foundations of Mathematics Teaching and Learning Pathway or approval from regional math team.
