Insurance Account Manager

Resource Training & Solutions is a Minnesota Service Cooperative, one of nine in the state. As a nonprofit, public corporation, Resource provides programs and services to school districts, cities, counties, governmental agencies, and nonprofits in central Minnesota. We train teachers, improve schools, inspire students, build safer communities, develop professionals, and ensure success.


Summary/Objective

The Insurance Account Manager is responsible for providing day-to-day operational support for the health insurance and wellness program available to our participating members, as well as collaborating with the Minnesota Healthcare Consortium (MHC) to provide support and solutions statewide. In this position you will be reporting directly to the Director of Insurance. Together, you will support the Resource members, as well as other Regional Service Cooperatives that contract for our support.

Essential Functions

  1. Provide exceptional customer service to our health insurance members by responding to all correspondence in a quick and accurate manner.
  2. Day-to-day work includes answering questions about our programs and services, managing the renewal process, and assisting with plan changes, claims, and billing.
  3. Actively strategize health plan benefit adjustments with our members based on changing needs and market shifts.
  4. Provide educational/informational sessions for our members on insurance, wellness and medical spending account products and services.
  5. Implement and maintain best practices in collaboration with MHC, statewide staff, and partners on local, regional and state initiatives.
  6. Use reporting to monitor and analyze data and help develop strategies to reduce costs. 
  7. Promote value-added wellness programs, in collaboration with regional staff, so members have access to information, funding, and tools essential to build a wellness culture within their organization.
  8. Collaborate with the Director of Insurance, the MHC statewide team, brokers, agents, and health plan partners to meet member needs. Currently, this position works with the southeast, southwest and central Regional Service Cooperatives and their insurance members and staff.
  9. Schedule and participate in client, Resource and MHC meetings as necessary.
  10. Maintain an activity log to track annual changes and member correspondence.
  11. Follow all federal and state regulations, and best practices for avoiding errors and omissions.
  12. Complete continuing education to maintain a health insurance license. C45 step 1-5.
  13. Other duties as assigned.

Desired Education, Licensure and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in the group health insurance industry
  • Experience in a customer service role 
  • Health/Life Insurance license, valid MN 
  • Driver’s license, valid MN

Environment & Physical Demands 

This job operates in a hybrid office environment, allowing the flexibility to work remotely, with the requirement to be in the Sartell office several days a month. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some organization and event set-up/tear-down is required. This would require the ability to move and lift 30 lbs., stand for extended periods of time and carry items a short distance as necessary.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Hours of work are generally Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Evening work may be required as job duties demand. Travel throughout the state will be common, with overnight stays as needed for scheduled events.
