2023 Central MN Regional Spelling Bee

Four Area Spellers Head to the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee on February 21, at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in Fergus Falls, Minn.

Resource Training & Solutions hosted the Central Minnesota Regional Spelling Bee in Sartell, Minnesota, on Tuesday, February 7th, 2023. Forty-three students from across Resources’ service region (Region 7) participated for a chance to compete in the Multi-Regional State Spelling Bee at Lakes Country Service Cooperative in  Fergus Falls. Students in grades 5-8 were divided into two groups competing in either a morning or afternoon session. The top two spellers from each session advanced to the Multi-Regional Bee on February 21, 2023.

The morning session had twenty-two spellers from eleven area school districts. Marissa Frank, an 8th grader from Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools, took first place in the 11th round. After a competitive spell off, Evan Meyer, a 6th grader from Melrose Area Public School came in 2nd place in the 22nd round.

It took eleven rounds to determine first and second place in our afternoon session of the spelling bee. Callie Niemela, an 8th grader from Dassel-Cokato School District took first place and Blake O'Brien, a 7th grader from Big Lake Schools, took second. Twenty-one spellers from thirteen area school districts competed in the afternoon session of the bee.

The top four spellers from Tuesday's competition now move on to the Multi-Regional Bee. The winner will represent Minnesota at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. Memorial Day week.
