Rethinking & Humanizing Data: Street Data in School Practice
Wednesday, August 19, 2026
10 a.m. - 12 p.m.
Monday, August 10, 2026
How do we truly understand the experiences of students and educators and use that understanding to create more equitable schools?
In this 2-hour virtual training, participants will get an overview and explore Street Data by Shane Safir and Jamila Dugan, a powerful framework for rethinking how we collect, interpret, and act on data in schools. Rather than relying solely on “satellite data” like test scores and attendance, Street Data invites educators and leaders to center humanizing, qualitative data that captures the lived experiences of students, families, and staff, especially those most marginalized.
During this interactive session, participants will:
- Build a shared understanding of satellite data vs. street data
- Examine how traditional data practices can unintentionally reinforce inequities
- Learn practical street data tools and mindsets that can be used immediately in school settings
- Reflect on identity, power, and bias in data collection and decision-making
- Consider how street data can inform more just, responsive instructional and leadership practices
