Did you know that February 13 doubles as Multiplication Day?
When we write the date as 2/13, it multiplies perfectly to 26 - a small but joyful reminder of how math shows up in everyday moments.
Multiplication Day is a light, engaging way to celebrate mathematical thinking across grade levels without adding pressure or extra prep. It’s a great opportunity for schools to spark curiosity, build community, and bring a little fun into the day.
Simple ways schools can celebrate:
- Math Moments: Invite teachers to share the math behind today’s date with students and ask, “Where else do you see multiplication in real life?”
- Notice & Wonder: Have students explore other dates that multiply to interesting products or predict which upcoming dates might work.
- Staff Connections: Create or share Multiplication Day greeting cards for staff, like the example shared by Sara Van Der Werf, to spread appreciation and math joy across your building. PDF
These small moments help normalize math as something to notice, talk about, and enjoy - well beyond the math classroom.
