A New School and Season for the SRR Storm

Pleasantview Elementary School opening this fall

After over 50 years of use, Pleasantview Elementary School at Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools will step into an exciting season with a new elementary school this fall. Originally opened in 1969, the school’s design, lack of space, and other infrastructure needs led to the district seeking voter approval on a $37.1 million bond referendum in November 2019. Over 29 facilities listening sessions, 20 community conversations, three listening session results meetings, surveys, and more helped gather community feedback every step of the way. After a 71% passage, the district entered the design phase and continued seeking community input to drive the plan’s final design.

Programmed to approximately 118,000 square feet, the new school will house around 700 students with room to expand for 800 students as the district continues to grow. Our team was involved from the beginning – collaborating with the district on initial planning, community engagement, and referendum planning. Our team has worked hard providing program management services over the last 20 months. ICS Project Director Kyle Walter said, “It has been such a rewarding experience having the existing facility so close to the new facility. The interaction with students and staff daily brings an exciting perspective to the project. The opportunity to interact has only enhanced everyone’s commitment to completing the facility on time and on budget. We look forward to welcoming students, staff, and the public to the new facility this fall.”

The new school, opening this fall, provides the space needed to educate the Storm’s youngest learners. In addition, the school’s gymnasium space, playgrounds, and basketball courts will be accessible for the community’s use – continuing the district’s efforts to create effective partnerships between students, staff, families, and community members.

Project updates, including drone videos, can be found on the district’s website here.
