It’s not too early to start planning for back to school workshop week! Our staff enjoys presenting in our member districts and customizing for the time and topic you’re looking for. District Data Retreat

District Data Retreat is a professional development opportunity where district, charter, and school leaders/leadership teams will be able to build visualizations of their spring 2023 MCA and ACCESS data using a provided platform. The morning will focus on understanding, and use of these tools with local data. Additionally, considerations of other data to support district, charter, and school improvement and implementation will be discussed.

Trauma Informed Resilient Schools Training

The bad news is trauma is a fact, but the good news is, so is resilience! We can’t talk about making a school trauma informed without talking about how to make a school resilience-focused. We may not be able to take away toxic stress and trauma that a student has experienced or will continue to experience but we can create new experiences of resilience in our schools.

This training is filled with practical tools and strategies to use with all students, but are especially important for students who have experienced trauma. Become a Certified Trauma and Resilience Specialist in Education (CTRS-E) through a 10-step evidenced based training that will ensure a trauma-informed, resilience-focused foundation is set for future growth and the betterment of the students you serve. Communications Planning for School Communicators

Families are more likely to trust schools when they have a clear understanding of what schools are doing and schools’ expectations of families. Community members will be more supportive of their school district if they see the benefits schools provide their community. This course provides the tools you need to develop a communications plan for the upcoming school year. At the end of this workshop, people responsible for communications -- superintendents, principals, assistants to superintendents and principals, and communications directors -- will have an editorial calendar that you can use for the 2023-2024 school year and subsequent years, a $2,000 value.

Catalyst: Supporting Whole Group Classroom Leadership Foundational Skills

This course is designed for educational support staff.  At the core of strong classroom management is how the adults manage themselves. In this class, school support staff participants learn strategies (based on observations and field-testing in more than 50,000 classrooms) that allow them to strengthen relationships, increase equity, reduce frustration, and foster independence in the small groups and individual students they support.

In this course you will learn communication strategies that empower you to support the students in the classroom that rely on you most.

Attendance in this course will allow you to:

How to Learn Math for Teachers Course Study

Explore the new research ideas on mathematics learning and student mindsets that can transform students’ experiences with math. Whether you are a PK-12 teacher preparing to implement state standards, an administrator wanting to know ways to encourage math teachers or another helper of math learners, this cohort is for you. The course study includes registration to Jo Boaler’s online Stanford course “How to Learn Math for Teachers” and coaching sessions.  Participants can work at their own pace to complete the work throughout the summer session.  This experience provides the opportunity to make sense of your learning, create connections, and plan how you’ll apply your learning in your classroom.  

Participants will learn:

  • New pedagogical strategies
  • An understanding of high quality math tasks
  • Questions to promote understanding
  • Messages to give students
  • Inspirational messages from educational thought-leaders

Graduate-level credits are available through College of St. Scholastica for an additional fee. Information regarding credits will be provided upon registration.

June Book Club: The Writing Revolution

You won’t find Oprah at this book club, but you will have great opportunities to network and learn with your colleagues! Join Education Director, Michelle Wang, and your regional colleagues as you read and virtually discuss The Writing Revolution: A Guide to Advancing Thinking Through Writing in all Subjects and Grades (Hochman & Wexler, 2017). This text teaches a flexible writing method, called the Hochman Method, that can be taught across all grades and subject areas. In this dynamic book study, we will unpack the Hochman Method across four sessions. Participants will leave each session with fresh insights on practical and high-leverage writing strategies and techniques.

How to Provide High Quality Behavior Training for Support Staff
