This workshop includes how Structured Literacy differs from Balanced Literacy, the impetus for this important change, and practical demonstrations of phonological awareness, phonics skills - including a scope and sequence, and decoding skills. The workshop will also show examples of how to structure a literacy block to align with this new approach and to meet the varying needs of students. Integrated throughout the session will be a connection to dyslexia and specific ideas for instructing students with dyslexia.

Participants should bring their current literacy block schedule and one of two books they might typically use in small group reading instruction.

One or two graduate level credits are available through a partnership with College of St. Scholastica.
