Provides reading instruction in a one-on-one or small group setting to improve specific reading skills of a particular child or small group of children. Work directly with the classroom teacher to assess students and create intervention plans of learning aligned with regular classroom reading objectives. Monitor student progress and confer with the classroom teacher on a regular basis regarding the progress of the student. Adjust instruction as needed to increase student reading proficiency.
- Assist the classroom teacher with assessment of students.
- Along with the classroom teacher, identify students who are at risk of not meeting grade level reading proficiency.
- Coordinate with the classroom teacher to develop a schedule of one-on-one or small group reading instruction for the at-risk students.
- Work closely with the classroom teacher to monitor students’ progress.
- Keep records of student work, progress monitoring, and assessments.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s Degree, minimum one year of experience in working one-on-one with children in an elementary classroom setting. Strong oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
Environment & Physical Demands
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. This is largely a sedentary role; however, some office organization and event set-up/tear-down is required. This would require the ability to move and lift 30 lbs., stand for extended periods of time and carry items a short distance as necessary.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position shall not exceed 30 hours per week at a rate of $15.00 per hour. This position is not benefit eligible. Hours may vary each day – the interventionist will work directly with the classroom teacher and the school principal to set their weekly schedule. Please note, this position is in a Catholic school. The interventionist must be flexible with their schedule due to program practices and other student obligations throughout the school year.
