Resource Training & Solutions is excited to offer Growing Leadership in Local Government, our newest leadership program. Growing Leadership in Local Government provides new, emerging and current local government leaders the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and build a network of colleagues from within their region. In collaboration with the University of Minnesota Extension Center for Community Vitality and Resource Training & Solutions’ Local Government Advisory Group, we are proud to launch Growing Leadership in Local Government.

We sat down and spoke with Reva Van Vleet, Manager of Local Government Services at Resource Training & Solutions. “The most exciting aspect of Growing Leadership in Local Government is that it has been created with local government leaders for local government leaders.” The development of this program has been fueled by a need for leadership training in cities, counties and other governmental agencies expressed across the region by our members. “Currently, there is an abundance of leadership programs out there but nothing that is specifically geared toward local government leaders.”

“When we developed Growing Leadership in Local Government, we focused on providing a holistic approach to leadership.” Growing Leadership in Local Government provides participants with eight months of engaging monthly sessions. Sessions are designed to help strengthen leadership knowledge and skills for personal and professional growth. Reva also speaks to the importance of building a network. “This program provides participants the opportunity to create networks regionally, forming relationships with up and coming leaders and more experienced leaders.”

“We have worked very closely with our Local Government Advisory Group throughout the development of the program.” Reva shared how Resource’s Local Government Advisory Group helped steer the development of the leadership program to ensure that the content of the program is relevant to the region.

Registration for Growing Leadership in Local Government is currently open online to members and non-members. Members of Resource Training & Solutions are able to register at a discounted rate. Applications will be accepted through March 2nd, 2020. We also have a limited number of partial tuition assistance resources available for qualifying participants.
